Description
Dolly Sods Wilderness is located within the immense Monongahela National Forest. This plateau was once home to massive spruce and hemlock trees. Then man came and logged the entire forest 1899-1920's. Next this area was used by US Army as a practice artillery. In fact there are signs advising to stay on trails because live mortar shell can still be found. Considering its history it has recovered with beauty of the wild. Wind carved boulders and the flaming red Huckleberry plains. Wind swept spruce trees giving this place a truly mystical feeling.
